Lyric Medley Tag (kinda)

Engie @ Musings From Neville’s Navel recently did a post for the Lyric Medley Tag. Now, I wasn’t tagged, but she did open it up to everyone who wanted to so I couldn’t resist 😛

Here are the rules for this tag:

  • Thank and link back to the person who tagged you
  • Make a collage that represents your taste in music to go along with your post
  • List a song for each of the ten questions below, include your favorite lyrics from that song, and explain why you chose that song
  • Tag at least five bloggers

*time passes*

Now for the actual songs!

A song that describes you perfectly

Oh dear, this one’s quite hard. I guess I’ll have to say:

“You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” by Sia

This one was really hard for me, I suppose. How many songs describe geeky-silly-unsure-of-herself-teen? So I went with the fact that I am generally goofy and smiley, and the fact that I love this song. I could also say “Defying Gravity”, since it’s about becoming who you are.

But if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for it all
‘Cause we got all we need, got love and more
You’re never fully dressed without a smile
And if you stand for something, you can have it all
‘Cause if it’s real, you’ll open every door
You’re never fully dressed without a smile

The happiest song you know

“I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz

This song is just so cheerful and upbeat and wow. I own two Jason Mraz songs and this one is definitely my favorite. Another option would be “Best Day of my Life” by American Authors, because c’mon, the name even says “happy”.

Look into your heart and you’ll find love, love, love, love.
Listen to the music of the moment, people dance and sing, we’re just one big family
And it’s our God-forsaken right to be loved, loved, loved, loved, loved

A song about donuts

“Something That I Want” by Grace Potter

Okay, so maybe this isn’t entirely donut-related. But I do really want donuts. And Tangled just rocks in general.

She said, I want something that I want
Something that I tell myself I need
Something that I want
And I need everything I see.

A song that proves how I am loved

“The Gambler” by Fun.

I swear when I grow up I won’t just buy you a rose
I will buy the flower shop, and you will never be lonely
For even if the sun stops waking up over the fields
I will not leave, I will not leave ’til it’s our time
So just take my hand, you know that I will never leave your side

A song of origin

“Tessie” by Dropkick Murphys

I’d say this is “a song of origin” because when I was little, going to and from t-ball games, my dad would always play this and the rest of The Warrior’s Code album in his car. So, Dad, it’s your fault that I’m a slight fan of Irish punk music. 😛 And I’m not even a Red Sox fan, either!

Tessie, you are the only only only
Don’t blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn’t live without you
Boston, you are the only only only
Don’t blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn’t live without you
Red Sox, you are the only only only

A song about human decency

“The Call” by Regina Spektor

This song is so beautiful and lyrical. I don’t know where I happened upon it- somewhere on YouTube- but I’m so glad I did. At first, it made me think of a Susan and Caspian kind of song (from The Chronicles of Narnia) but then I realized that it’s a song for all of them- Peter, and Edmund, and Lucy, and Susan. How they might have to leave Narnia, but that they will come back.

Now we’re back to the beginning
It’s just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can’t feel it too
Doesn’t mean that you have to forget
Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
‘Til they’re before your eyes
You’ll come back when they call you
No need to say goodbye

A song about a story

“Space Oddity (feat. Kristen Wiig) by David Bowie

This song is featured in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. I just love the story in this one, how it actually does tell a story. David Bowie’s voice is amazing, and so is Kristen Wiig’s when paired together. It’s a song about discovery, and adventure, and taking risks and seeing what’s out there and it’s beautiful.

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

An “I can’t even” song

“Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men

Of Monsters and Men is quite possibly my favorite band of all time (C’MON GUYS COME OUT WITH ANOTHER ALBUM) and this song first introduced me to their wonderfulness. Be warned: if you think you understand the song, the music video is just going to supremely confuse you. But it is such a cool music video, otherwise. I, personally, think the guy in the song is dead, and the girl is trying to live without him. But the music video just leaves me like “Wha…”.

You’re gone, gone, gone away
I watched you disappear
All that’s left is the ghost of you.
Now we’re torn, torn, torn apart,
There’s nothing we can do
Just let me go we’ll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me
Please hang around
I’ll see you when I fall asleep

I have another one:

“C’Mon” by Panic! At the Disco and Fun.

I have an undying love for this song. Panic! At the Disco+Fun.=AMAZINGNESS. Besides, Viria did art to this, for Percy Jackson (google it), soooo….

What would my head be like
If not for my shoulders
Or without your smile
May it follow you forever
May it never leave you
To sleep in the stone,
May we stay lost on our way home

A song my father plays on guitar

“Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance

My dad doesn’t actually play the guitar. The only song I know how to play is the Girl Scout song “Barges”. And we’re both My Chemical Romance fans, so this was a definite.

Do or die, you’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you’ll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won’t explain or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed, I’m gonna show my scar
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it’s who we are
I’m just a man, I’m not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this song
I’m just a man, I’m not a hero
I! don’t! care!

A song about hope

“Not About Angels” by Birdy

Okay, this could be argued as a not-hopeful song as it’s from The Fault in our Stars, but I feel like just listening to the song makes you feel like it is one. It’s flowing and lyrical and pretty, and Birdy’s voice is wonderful.

Now, since I wasn’t tagged, I’m not going to tag anybody, but whoever wants to do it feel free! This was really fun!

  1. Ehehe, wow, I actually haven’t listened to most of the stuff mentioned here! I guess we have very different tastes in music. 🙂

Also, I’m laughing because, like… “Space Oddity” is about drugs, actually, a drug overdose. Have you heard his later song “Ashes to Ashes”? Ashes to ashes / funk to funky / we know Major Tom’s a junkie… 🙂
